Review of Activities & Achievements

The Association continued with the reduced number of meetings that it held throughout this year and also did not hold any events or quiz nights.  This was discussed and agreed at the next committee meeting following last years AGM in recognition that the WSCA does have a role and value within the community albeit at this time just minor one.  However the committee has continued to keep a watching brief over its remit area and have supported residents in local issues and concerns that have arisen.  Tonight was a classic example of how the Association continues to be mindful of its residents and to help residents find information and solutions to issues that may affect the area or be of concern to them.  Burtons Orchard has been identified for use by Somerset Leaving Care Team to accommodate young people making the transition from Care to independence.  Louise Ward & Sandra Bishop offered to come along tonight to discuss this proposed use and I hope have answered residents concerns.

The committee meets each month and these meetings are open for members to attend or to raise issues. These meeting are well attended by our own ward councillors and we would like to thank them for their continued support.  The role of the Association has been favourably presented and the profile of its work has continued to grow stronger within the community, an increase in resident’s attendance at these meetings has been welcomed. A website for the Association is available www.wsca.org.uk and the committee is working with the local council for and on behalf of local residents. The Association is grateful for the continuing support of Taunton Deane Borough Council.

The future holds a number of challenges for the Association not least to find a new Chair and additional Members to lead the Association and continue to increase its presence within the community. We all have a part to play no matter how small.

As Chair I would like to express my thanks to those individual committee members who are all volunteers and have given their time so freely to further the aims of the Association. In today’s hectic environment this contribution should not be underestimated and is not always appropriately recognised. Finally, thanks go to St. George’s Church for their kind support and use of their facilities.
