Matters arising: New Members. Debbie was proposed as a new member and she was duly voted on to the committee. All attending unanimously supported this election. Summer Celebration. This was discussed and deemed to have been a great success. It was felt that the event had an excellent 'community orientated' emphasis that had worked well. The good points were many. A summary of which follows: Bishops Henderson School were pleased that they attended and indeed had been able to generate some funds from the event. The Scouts provided excellent snack facilities. The parachute game was superb and generated a great deal of fun and participation. The races generated lots of enjoyment The Tombola kindly run by Jean generated good funds for her chosen charities. All in all, the event was considered to be a very good community event. Lessons learnt were few but are as follows; Perhaps more notice next year should be given to participants to enable us to make alternative arrangements if people become unavailable. Perhaps the use of bunting etc. would make more people aware of the fact that the event is taking place. Photographs of the event were thought to be of benefit however the question of child protection issues was raised. The committee was unsure on this issue but it was agreed that this should be kept on file with a view to giving the matter consideration prior to next years events. The timing was thought to be good as it avoided other events and it was suggested that a similar date should be considered for next year. The question of acquiring prizes for a Tom Bola stall at both the Easter and Summer events was raised and it was thought that this should be discussed at the forthcoming AGM. Friends of Wilton and Sherford Lands. The meeting was advised that Phil Parker had made representations regarding this issue but had received no response to date. A.O.B Blagdon Lodge - Princess Margaret's / Planning Issues The committee was advised that planning permission was likely to be given in the very near future. The major holding point had been the final proposals for the social housing. The developers have now made a firm application. It was confirmed at the meeting that the retirement village, including the social housing, would only be available to people over 50 years of age. The traffic issues regarding the site were raised, however, after discussion it was accepted that the planning decisions made were now irreversible, albeit they were made on old information. However it was accepted that this was in accordance with the appropriate legislation. To date the mud on the road has not been a problem. John Meikle raised the point that Councilor Williams was doing the rounds with the "Vision for Taunton" and that we could raise some fundsby having it in the Church Hall for the local residents. Steven agreed to arrange this. Accounts / Funding Phil Parker is dealing with these issues and the financial issues will be reviewed at the forthcoming AGM. A.G.M. The date of the A.G.M was discussed and due to the unavailability of some members consideration was given to changing the date, from the proposed date of 15th November to the 22nd. However this will be somewhat dependent on the availability of a suitable venue. Steve agreed to investigate. Others Matters Raised. The positions of the members of the committee for the next year were debated. After discussion it was agreed to raise the matter at the A.G.M. In particular Steve suggested that perhaps he has served his term but that it would seem sensible to groom a successor during the next year. Debbie was interested in the Treasurer's position. Gareth offered to continue as Vice - Chairman. Alan offered to continue as Secretary. However the whole issue was left for further discussion at the A.G.M. Debbie advised that she had been made aware that the proposed Pedestrian Crossing on the Trull Rd (near the entrance road to the Civil Service Sports Club) is to be installed in the very near future. The parking in Middleway and the area in general was discussed. It was accepted that this was a problem but that all we could do has been done so we can only monitor the situation. It was proposed that a newsletter should be circulated before the end of October to generally publicise the association's activities and to also make people aware of the forthcoming A.G.M. There being no other business the meeting closed at 9.30 p.m. Date of the next meeting (A.G.M.) to be confirmed., the 15th or 22nd November, being the most probable.
